The Rudolfinerhaus Privatklinik has been one of Vienna’s most prestigious private hospitals for more than a century, combining medical excellence with a special commitment to art and culture. Since the opening of the new outpatient center, the premises have been permanently activated in cooperation with ARTCARE and SIMACEK through the presentation of works by contemporary artists, predominantly based in Vienna.
The existing display is now being expanded to include a remarkable position in international contemporary art: a work by the Ghanaian artist Amoako Boafo.
Born in 1984 in Accra, Ghana, Boafo first studied at the Ghanatta College of Art and Design in Accra and later at the Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien. Today, he is regarded as one of the most significant voices in the art of the African diaspora. With his distinctive technique—applying thick layers of paint with his fingers—he creates powerful portraits that celebrate Black identity and redefine the tradition of contemporary portrait painting.

AMOAKO BOAFO
Yellow Turtleneck, 2025
100 x 96 cm
High-rendered print on aludibond, with slim brown aluminium frame
Limited Edition of 20
Signed and numbered by the artist
LITO Hi-Rnd© Technology
The limited edition now presented at Rudolfinerhaus Privatklinik was created through the artist’s collaboration with LITO Editions and is based on a body of work most recently shown in the widely acclaimed solo exhibition “Proper Love” at the Belvedere (2024/25). Parts of the series are currently on view internationally, including at the Wooyang Art Museum in Seoul. Another work from the edition connects to Amoako Boafo’s much-noted collaboration with Dior, underscoring the dynamic dialogue between art and fashion.
The edition combines the distinctive tactile quality of Boafo’s painting with state-of-the-art reproduction technology, thereby preserving the intense color and texture for which the artist is internationally renowned. At the same time, a portion of the proceeds supports the residency program dot.ateliers in Accra, founded by Boafo, which provides artists with space for exchange, experimentation, and further development.

By integrating a work by Amoako Boafo, Rudolfinerhaus Privatklinik sends a further signal of international cultural exchange and contemporary relevance. The presence of his work within the sensitive environment of a private hospital creates a space for encounters between patients, medical staff, and art, and expands the existing collection with a powerful, globally connected perspective.
We sincerely thank the Chairman of the Board of the Rudolfinerhaus, Kommr. Dr. Georg Semler, as well as Ms. Barbara Martinuzzi for their continued trust and the inspiring collaboration.
In addition to the work now on display at the Rudolfinerhaus, ARTCARE offers two more pieces from Amoako Boafo’s limited lithography series as part of its art rental program.

The editions Red Tulip Trench Coat and White Nail Polish are based on unique paintings that were prominently featured in the recent solo exhibition Proper Love at the Belvedere Museum (2024/25). While Yellow Turtleneck originally emerged in the context of Boafo’s highly acclaimed collaboration with Dior and captivates with its iconic, fashion-charged visual language, White Nail Polish stands out for its particularly intimate yet confident portrayal. The work is also part of a current presentation at the Wooyang Art Museum, highlighting the series’ international resonance.
Both pieces impress with Boafo’s characteristic, tactile-looking surface quality and vibrant color intensity, which are rendered strikingly in the high-quality lithographs created in close collaboration with LITO Editions.
ARTCARE offers these two editions as part of its art rental program. You can find more information here.
