A stage for art (Die Presse)

How does one actually live with art, and how does a work of art find its place in one's own home?

A recent article in Die Presse addresses precisely these questions, focusing on living with artworks and exploring the interplay between personal taste, collection building, and professional interior design. The article brings together diverse perspectives – from the view that art should not be seen as mere decoration to practical considerations such as hanging, lighting, and providing the right "breathing space" for artworks.

In this interview, Gernot Schmidt-Schmiedbauer, Managing Director of ARTCARE, explains why ARTCARE believes every approach to art is valid, even if a work is initially chosen quite pragmatically based on interior design or sofa color: If this initial impulse serves as the starting point for a conversation about art, much has already been achieved. The goal is to make art as accessible as possible. Schmiedbauer worked in finance for around 30 years and was a collector himself. He noticed how often collections are not properly documented and how many works remain "invisible" in private collections in Austria. To change precisely this, ARTCARE commissioned the development of database software for the structured recording of art collections. This knowledge not only provides an overview and organization but also opens up new ways to "bring art out into the world," for example, through rental or sale, always with the aim that works are not only owned but also seen and experienced.

We would like to thank Ms. Sabine Mezler - Andelberg for the interview and the article in Der Presse.
